About Euromos
Near Milas, Euromos is known for the Temple of Zeus Lepsynos among pine trees. Many Corinthian columns remain standing, making it one of Anatolia's best-preserved Roman temples. A theatre, agora and walls reveal the broader Carian settlement around it.
History
Euromos is thought to have been earlier called Kyromos and to have early roots in Caria. Closely connected with Mylasa, it was affected by regional power struggles in Hellenistic times. The surviving Temple of Zeus Lepsynos was built largely in the second century CE; dedicatory inscriptions on its columns record citizens who helped finance it. Public buildings developed under Rome, followed by contraction in late antiquity. Excavation and conservation also investigate the theatre, necropolis and urban fabric.
