About Antiphellos
In central Kaş, Antiphellos brings the Lycian past into everyday town life through its theatre and the Lion Tomb at the head of Uzun Çarşı. The natural harbour facing Meis helps explain its maritime and commercial growth.
History
Antiphellos initially developed as the port of inland Phellos, becoming more prominent as sea trade expanded. It belonged to the Lycian League in the Hellenistic period and minted its own coins. Harbour trade, including timber and sponges, supported prosperity under Rome; the theatre and funerary monuments reflect the ancient townscape. Since modern Kaş grew largely over the settlement, remains are dispersed across its neighbourhoods.
